Mission:
The mission of the Professional Leadership Program is to assist Juniors/Seniors at Rensselaer in developing their understanding of the concepts and complexities associated with leadership. This course is designed to emulate a professional environment, and a special emphasis will be placed on applying leadership skills to the workplace. The PLP will focus on personal and career development in order to assist students in making an effective transition from college to the specific leadership theories and skills including ethical decision making, developing vision, motivation techniques, and tools to succeed in a diverse organizational culture. An experiential approach is utilized to provide students with the opportunity to enhance their leadership styles.

Focus on the Workplace:
Through guest speakers and interactive experiences, PLP students explore the impact of changes in the global market, how to adapt to them, and how to operate successfully in the global community. Corporate culture and values will be examined, while students discover what they can expect as leaders and followers in the workplace.
The Professional Leadership Program provides valuable opportunities to meet, interact, and network with corporate executives. Students will learn to assess if a company or organization is a good fit for them. They will also learn how to present themselves powerfully in interview settings. By sharpening individual and team presentation skills, students begin to develop an important tool for success in today's work world.
